  • Daron Wint, the man accused of murdering a wealthy D.C. family, could not have committed the crime because he does not like pizza, his former attorney Robin Ficker 'He Doesn't Like Pizza': Atty Cites Mansion Murder Suspect's Food Preference The man accused of murdering a wealthy D.C. family could not have committed the crime because he does not like pizza, his former attorney said. In a case that made national headlines earlier this month, police said they identified Daron Wint as the prime suspect because his DNA was found on pizza crust left at the crime scene. Wint is the only person to be arrested in the deaths of corporate executive Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, 10-year-old son, and housekeeper. The family was found dead in their burning home May 14, with cops later saying the pizza crust survived the fire. Police believe Wint ordered a pizza during the 18 hours that the family was held against their will. Attorney Robin Ficker said today the story about the pizza crust just doesn't add up. Ficker said the entire Wint family dislikes pizza. "[The family] is from British Guyana. There's no Papa John's, there's no Domino's. ... They don't have pizza there. He doesn't like pizza," he said. Kimberly Guilfoyle pushed back, arguing that the DNA was in the home and pointing out that Wint used to work at Savopoulos' company, American Iron Works. Ficker said another person's DNA could be present in anyone's home. "If I cut myself in this interview room and my DNA is left here and a crime is committed here 12 hours later, does that mean I committed the crime? Of course it doesn't. DNA is a junk science," said Ficker. He added that Wint worked for the company 11 years ago and that it is implausible that he would have held a grudge for that long. "They've got the wrong guy," said Ficker. Ficker pointed to the $40,000 cash delivery to the home as a key factor in the case, arguing that there are many unanswered questions about it. "They admit that there are lots of people involved here. Why are they just holding my client's head on the totem pole? Because they've got blinders on," he said.
